Fear of Falling (Wild at Heart)
Published in Library Binding by Gareth Stevens (May, 2003)
Average review score:

I felt as though I was one of the characters in the book. This is one of the best books I've read because it seemed so real. Fear of Falling was exciting, especially when the author wrote about the Siamese cat being treated for breathing problems, with younger kids helping the vet as vet assistants. I want to be a vet someday. David, the main character, learned that jumping horses is dangerous and riders should take precautions. But he learned he could fall and still like jumping. This book seemed real because the characters were young, and the story was told from their point of view. Readers should be at Level 6 (third grade) to read this book.

Ferris Wheels: An Illustrated History
Published in Hardcover by Popular Press (December, 1992)
Average review score:

The Ferris Wheel Bible! This book is the ultimate authority on Ferris Wheels. The history of Ferris Wheels is comprehensive and has copious footnotes. The references go deep. There was one reference that caught my fancy, and after extensive searching, found that it is a reference in one library in England, and shows up no where else! The photographs are good, but not great. An excellent and detailed section on patents related to Ferris Wheels. Anderson has written a super 400+ page reference work. Strongly recommended.

Fever Dream (Night Lights)
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (October, 1987)
Average review score:

Welcome to DreamlandRay Bradburt does it again! In Fever Dream, Ray Bradbruy spins an enchanting tale that reminds my of Little Nemo, about a boy who embarks on a quest through-dream land. The resulting work is nothing less than magical and is not to be missied by anyone. If you are looking for a book you will cherish forever, this is it! Peace.

Fire Road (John Simmons Short Fiction Award)
Published in Paperback by University of Iowa Press (October, 2001)
Average review score:

The Montana BeckettAnderson's short-story cycle is one of the best I've read in the last 25 years. The first chapters made me sweat when I read them; the prose was so intense and purely written, distilled language that resembles the best single-malt scotch or Sinatra during his middle phase. Anderson's style is mixture of Hemingway, Dubus, and Beckett (if that Irish writer had been from the American West, he'd have written like this).
The one aspect about this writing that I particularly savor is that while it is about the loss of love, children, friends, and fathers, and suffering, blown intestines, the stuff of real pain, it is also about living with all that agony one is asked to endure; it is about surviving with grace and dignity. It is about making art. Like the end of Beckett's great trilogy, it is about going on.
Although I enjoyed "Fire Road," the story that gives the book its title, I favored other stories more, "Wonder Bread," "Weather," and "Luck."
This is a serious work of art by a writer with talent. I can't wait until the his next work of art arrives.

anderson rulesfire time is anderson at his best. the society works, the action works, and it's hooked in with another good anderson, 'the star fox'
My primary reason for recommending this book is the imaginative way the author has filled it with imaginative ideas and instructions on how to do everything yourself.
